DIY Simple Christmas Stockings

As you might know I do a bit of sewing. Mostly for the home sort of things but sometimes I do things that are a bit more fun like an Art Deco Cosmetics Bag. And with Christmas coming (you might have already seen my DIY Christmas Cards) I figured I could share with you guys how to make simple Christmas Stockings. I already made more complicated plaid Christmas Stockings for my family, and these are actually a charity thing for American soldiers. Some people make stockings and others, fill them with things before they're sent off.

You can make these simple stockings more custom, by adding a lining and name embroidery if you'd like.

You can make 2 stockings from 2/3 yard  of a cotton fabric.

1.  Lay the fabric right sides together and cut out the stocking shape.

2.  Sew around the stocking leaving the top edge open.  Fold down the top edge about a half inch and then fold it again enclosing the raw edges.  Press.

3.  Using the scraps, cut a piece about 6" long and 3" wide.   Fold both long ends to the middle, bring the folded edges together and top stitch.

4. Insert the raw edges of the loop into the folded edge of the stocking at the back seam.  Stitch the loop down then fold the loop  over the pressed hem.   Top stitch around the top of the stocking going over the hoop to give it extra strength.  Give it a good press and you are done!
