Book Review: Backwards Beauty

Backwards Beauty
How to Feel Ugly in 10 Simple Steps
A Life, Love & God Book from Jessie Minassian

Yes, I'm talking to you-perfectly made-you. Now give me a chance before you stomp on my words! I have a message that you will want (or maybe need) to hear. I'm Jessie, and the lies of our culture have messed with me, too. Think of me as a big sis who will tackle the gough stuff with you - life beauty - when you're not feeling even a hint of cute.

In Backwards Beauty, I want to show you exactly why you are so beautiful. And I want to do it in a completely illogical way: By giving you 10 tips  on how to feel ugly. Get ready to laugh with me about the ridicoulous things we do in search of "beautiful." We might even cry tighter as we face the lies we have chosen to believe about our bodies. In the end I think we'll find that we're gorgeous after all. We are the real deals, and we have way more to offer God and the world than just our bodies. We have a beauty not  everyone understands. You might call it a backwards beauty.

Jessie Minassian loves Jesus, sunshine and sand between her toes. She's a speaker, author of a handful of books, and the resident "big sis" at a popular website for teen girls. A native of California, Jessie now lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband and two daughters.

*I was given this book by the publisher.

A lot of people have different views on who is beautiful, and what exactly beauty is. One thing that is sure is that all women sometime in their life have had trouble being happy with their appearance. So I was happy to get to review this book hoping it'd be eye opening. Luckily it didn't let me down! Backwards Beauty is a fun read. The discussion questions are great, and I think this book is fantastic for young teenage girls to read. If you like Daughters in Danger or Sex and the Single Christian Girl you'll love this book.
