Book Review: A Year of Living Prayerfully

A Year of Living Prayerfully
By Jared Brock

How a Curious Traveler met the Pope walked on coals, danced with rabbis, and revived is prayer life.

Is Anyone Listening? Do my prayers really change anything? Jared Brock sensed that something was missing in his prayer life, so he embarked on a yearlong journey to rediscover the power of prayer (and eat some delicious falafel). Follow Jared on a 37,000 mile trip around the world as he

  • dances with Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn
  • discovers the 330 year old home of Brother Lawrence
  • plants prayer bombs in North Korea
  • burns his clothes at the end of the world
  • attends the world's largest church, and
  • attempts fire walking (with only minor burns)
"Brock proves that you don't have to live in a monastery and grow a two foot beard to have a rich prayer life... though a beard certainly doesn't hurt" - Aaron Alford

My Thoughts : There are so many books out there on how to get better at praying. Like 7 Secrets to Power Praying, Candle Prayers for Kids and Contagious Disciple unlike most though this book encourages you to find yourself, and God through that. While I love how the book is written it's hard live through someone else's discovery and it's not practical to have those on your own. I do like the fresh perspective though.
