Book Review: The Single Dad Detour

The Single Dad Detour
Directions for Fathering After Divorce
By Tex Brooks

Authentic, down-to-earth wisdom from one dad to another. This much needed guidebook addresses the spiritual and emotional health of fathers as well as their financial and practical arrangements. Using the experience of his own divorce and the real-life stories of other single dads, The Single Dad Detour is a humors and invaluable companion for single dads at all stages of their journey.

Tez Brooks is the father of four children and a missionary filmmaker for The Jesus Film Project. He has also been a journalist for Cru and a Florida law enforcement officer. Tez has been speaking and writiting books and articles for over thirty years.

My Thoughts: Of course as someone who's benefited from parents with a strong marriage, I will always say to any divorce book, it's always best to just work it out, however I know that it doesn't always work out so in this review I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible. The first thing I noticed about The Single Dad Detour is how honestly it's written. I feel like Tez Brooks has lived through these struggles and would do the advice he's giving. He goes through the steps in order in a way that I think many Christian men would feel them after a divorce. Although the dating or should I say courting section of the book was a little odd, overall I think that The Single Dad Detour is a great guide for men dealing with a divorce. If you like The Unbreakable Boy or Heaven is For Real this is a book to check out.
