Book Review: Candle Prayers for Kids

Candle Prayers for Kids
Claire Freedman

An easy to use collection of simple prayers for home, school, and church, by the well known children's author Claire Freedman. The Let's Praise God! Prayer. "Dear God, we praise you. Dear Lord we love you. What would we do without you? Thank you, God Amen." which is one that would be very common to use. There is also another one that I like which would be used a little less but could be altered "Dear God, Today we went to the zoo. I saw lots of animals you made. Huge elephants, tiny lizards, chattering monkeys, gentle deer, waddling penguins and prowling lions. You made them all, God. Big and small. Thank you, God Amen.

When I was a child, I was always taught that memorized prayers weren't really the thing and that instead prayer should just be you talking to God. That's what I've always done, except occasionally I say the Lord's Prayer. So for me this book, as cute as it is wouldn't really be something that I'd use with children.  The best I think it could be, is inspiration to start praying, so that you as the parent or guardian, maybe even teacher don't have to come up with something new every time. I prefer the Candle Bedtime Bible Stories and Bible and Prayers for Teddy and Me
